Memphis Football head coach Ryan Silverfield expected to be named head coach at Arkansas, sources say
14+ min ago (148+ words) MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - University of Memphis Football head coach Ryan Silverfield is expected to take the job vacancy at the University of Arkansas, according to sources. The job was initially accepted by University of South Florida head coach Alex Golesh, but he accepted an offer to coach at Auburn. Arkansas fired then head coach, Sam Pittman, in September. Later, they named Bobby Petrino as the interim head coach. Silverfield led the Tigers to an 8-4 regular season record this year, including a win over Arkansas, but dropped the final three games. Silverfield was promoted to head coach back in 2019 following Mike Norvell's decision to coach at Florida State. The 45-year-old led the Tigers to four bowl wins in his tenure. He finishes with an overall coaching record of 50-25. It's unclear who the University of Memphis will hire to replace Silverfield....

According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a home on Shadowland Cove, located in the Long Creek community, at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, October 29. Upon arrival, deputies found a woman, identified as 31-year-old Ta'Lesha Wise-Farmer, dead in a bedroom with gunshot injuries. SCSO reports that 30-year-old Nigel Farmer, whose address matches that of the home where the crime occurred, was identified as the individual responsible for her death following "an extensive investigation" over the past year. Woman pleads guilty to defrauding COVID-19 relief programs of over $575K

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Tennessee reports that in the pandemic's first year, Tabor and a co-conspirator filed fraudulent applications for unemployment benefits in over 27 states, defrauding the federal unemployment relief program of over $560,000. The duo also cheated the federally-funded Tennessee Emergency Cash Assistance (ECA) program of approximately $15,000 by creating fake termination notices for themselves and others. Sentencing delayed for former officer accused of on-duty kidnapping, murder

Ferguson, 33, is accused of kidnapping, shooting, and killing 30-year-old Robert Howard while on duty back in 2021. In August, he pleaded guilty to his federal charges three months before he was set to go on trial. Ferguson was set to be sentenced in accordance with that plea on Thursday. That has since been pushed back to December 1 to allow his attorneys to argue for less time served and for the government to speak to more family members to give the judge a clearer picture of what happened.
